Issues

– Political Parties

  • Since 1856, the United States has only had two major political parties. Over the decades, the parties have proven to be self serving, often putting power gains for the party before the needs of the American people. By being a true Independent, I am not beholden to political parties or their financial backers. As an independent, I will look at the facts, figures, and listen to the voice of the people to determine how I vote. If a bill benefits the American people, I will support it no matter which side created it. To further add to my belief that people are more important than politics, I plan to continue to spend my time in Colorado after being elected and will have an open-door policy for constituents from Colorado District 5. I will also continue to have online conversations with voters after the election to ensure your voices are continually being heard.

 – Financial Backers

  •        Under the current two-party system, candidates are required to not only raise money for their own campaigns but for the  political party as a whole. They are then assigned places within the party committees based off their fundraising amounts. This often means taking in more money than a candidate needs or taking money from questionable sources in order to better their place within the committee. AS a true independent I will not be taking donations from major corporations or political party committees. I will also require that large donations be from named donors rather than anonymous, potentially undesirable donors. By doing so, I am making sure that the most important people I communicate with are you, the citizens of the 5th Congressional District of Colorado.

Agriculture

“Commercial agriculture can survive within pluralistic American society, as we know it - if the farm is rebuilt on some of the values with which it is popularly associated: conservation, independence, self-reliance, family, and community. To sustain itself, commercial agriculture will have to reorganize its social and economic structure as well as its technological base and production methods in a way that reinforces these values.”

Corporations

“It’s ridiculous to talk about freedom in a society dominated by huge corporations. What kind of freedom is there inside a corporation? They’re totalitarian institutions - you take orders from above and maybe give them to people below you. There’s about as much freedom as under Stalinism.”
― Noam Chomsky

Social security

“Out of our first century of national life we evolved the ethical principle that it was not right or just that an honest and industrious man should live and die in misery. He was entitled to some degree of sympathy and security. Our conscience declared against the honest workman's becoming a pauper, but our eyes told us that he very often did.”

Environment

“Here is your country. Cherish these natural wonders, cherish the natural resources, cherish the history and romance as a sacred heritage, for your children and your children's children. Do not let selfish men or greedy interests skin your country of its beauty, its riches or its romance.”

Energy and oil

“The angry men know that this golden age (of fossil fuels) has gone; but they cannot find the words for the constraints they hate. Clutching their copies of Atlas Shrugged, they flail around, accusing those who would impede them of communism, fascism, religiosity, misanthropy, but knowing at heart that these restrictions are driven by something far more repulsive to the unrestrained man: the decencies we owe to other human beings.”

Welfare and poverty

“The greatest disease in the West today is not TB or leprosy; it is being unwanted, unloved, and uncared for. We can cure physical diseases with medicine, but the only cure for loneliness, despair, and hopelessness is love. There are many in the world who are dying for a piece of bread but there are many more dying for a little love. The poverty in the West is a different kind of poverty -- it is not only a poverty of loneliness but also of spirituality. There's a hunger for love, as there is a hunger for God.”

Drugs

“People use drugs, legal and illegal, because their lives are intolerably painful or dull. They hate their work and find no rest in their leisure. They are estranged from their families and their neighbors. It should tell us something that in healthy societies drug use is celebrative, convivial, and occasional, whereas among us it is lonely, shameful, and addictive. We need drugs, apparently, because we have lost each other.”

Government reform

covid-19

“The frightening assaults of pandemic terror have vastly increased our vulnerability. At the outset, hope and humor were able to alleviate the sabotage of our living together, until bit by bit, the raging roars and the thundering crashes of the death toll called the shots. The ground zero of our mental structure must inevitably make us remold another thinking pattern. ("What do they think behind their dirty aprons?" )”
