Welfare and poverty

  • Create incentives for businesses to open in impoverished areas around the country.
  • Pro Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF): People in need are eligible for up to 60 months of federal assistance but must find a job within 24 months. TANF replaced the former Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC) in 1996, as part of President Bill Clinton's welfare reform. AFDC potentially lasted indefinitely; TANF is temporary.
  • Focus on urban and rural renewal work with a public and private partnership to help rebuild every community in this great nation.
  • Encourage communities to welcome all nonprofits including religious based nonprofits regardless of religion.
  • SNAP benefits will be reformed out of the farm bill and put toward a separate bill that makes sure it is continually funded.
  • Increase the auditing of benefits to ensure that those who truly need assistance are the ones receiving it - reduce the amount of fraud, misuse, and abuse of the system
  • Restrict what benefits will cover (i.e., welfare will not pay for alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, etc.…)
  • Place a restriction that 75% of benefits are required to pay for living expenses - rent, utilities, healthcare etc.…
