Meet Alax

My name is Alax Jones, and I am running to be your representative for the 5th Congressional District of Colorado to the United States Congress.

I was born in Garden City, MI to two wonderful parents, Mike & Mary Jones. Ever since I was little, I was interested in how our government worked, in how we got our rights as citizens, and the amazing history of the United States. While other kids were reading Dr. Seuss, I wanted books on the civil war, on our founding fathers, and on early American history.

As a teenager growing up, my father moved the family throughout the country every two to three years. Dad was in the telecommunications boom of the 1990s and early 2000s. My father Michael taught me the value of hard work and determination, and to always be respectful with those who I interacted with.

In high school, I volunteered for several student clubs, groups, and organizations. These included serving in the student government, serving in the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and serving in the National Honor Society (NHS). My nickname became “Mr. President” for my  leadership abilities and innate ability to communicate with others. My service to my fellow students and to my community was recognized time and time again and in my senior year, I was awarded the senior superlative of having done the most for the school in my four years as a student.

After graduating from Elizabeth High School, I continued my service and dedication to our country by joining the United States Navy. While serving in the Navy, I served as a Master-at-Arms which is the Navy's equivalent of a military police officer. Due to this service, I got to travel to several countries throughout the world and in these countries, I saw what a global force for good that the United States can be. I was honorably discharged from my Naval service in 2017.

In 2012, I married the love of my life Madison and together we have five beautiful children. My oldest son Joseph was born with special needs and thus began my unwavering devotion with those Americans who need a little extra help. I have been honored to help with the Special Olympics, the Praying Hands Ranch, the Student Veterans Organization of America, St. Jude’s Children's Hospital, and with many local food and clothing drives. This is why it is important that our elected officials should not only live in the communities in which they represent, but also strive to make our communities better through action and not mere words alone.

In 2014, I graduated from Colorado Technical University with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. In 2017, I received a master’s degree in criminal justice with an emphasis on Homeland Security. I have an in-depth understanding of the threats and the security challenges that face our country, and I can offer first-hand, common sense solutions to these often-complex problems. For far too long our country’s security has been at the hands of those who do not understand our enemies and what they will do to harm the United States and our way of life. It is time to return common sense to our country’s security policies and to stop the hyperbole.

I have also worked in education for the past decade and understand the issues facing our modern-day educational system. For far too long, our children’s education has been at the mercy of political parties, partisan bickering, and greedy unions. I have seen the amount of stress that these policies take on our educators and on our children. Education begins in the home and that it is every parent's right to determine what their child will be taught. Parents are the foundation upon which education is built and it is parents who should play a more active role in what is taught in our public schools. As an educational professional, I have always made it my priority to ensure that all people have equal and equitable access to a great education. If elected to Congress, I will continue this push by supporting legislation that will ensure that all Americans can get a great and honest education, free of political ideologies and socially divisive policies.

While many elected officials today claim that they understand and know that our criminal justice system needs reform they often provide just lip service to any meaningful reform. I have first-hand knowledge and experience of how terribly bad our justice system needs reform. In 2019, I graduated from the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Academy in Highlands Ranch, CO. Shortly thereafter I went on to serve a short time as a police officer for a local municipality. Due to this service, I gained invaluable insight into the issues affecting our modern-day criminal justice system. These items included not having enough space to house criminals, not having enough resources to address mental health issues and illnesses, not having enough judges or prosecutors to prosecute crimes and not having enough resources to assist victims of crimes. If elected to Congress, I will use this knowledge and insight to seek ways to reform our criminal justice system and to make it one that all Americans can truly be proud of.

In my free time, I enjoy reading, watching classic movies from the golden age of Hollywood, playing with my children and my dog Ollie, and traveling. I will also talk your ear off about anything related to history, philosophy and I have been known to crack some rather good dad jokes.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know me and I hope I get to meet and know you!
